Closing a business account

If you're a Sole Trader, or your business has one signature to operate, there are a few ways you can close your business current or savings account. The easiest is to log on to Online Banking and use ‘chat with us’. You can also call us on 0330 123 9860 to get started.

If your account is dormant

If the account you're trying to close is dormant, please visit our Dormant accounts page for what to do next.

Next steps

We’ll close your account within 5 working days of receiving your request, and we’ll send you a letter to confirm that it’s closed. If we haven’t got the right information, it might take longer.

Useful information

  • You'll need to repay any overdraft on your account before you ask us to close it.
  • You'll need to make sure there's enough money in the account to cover any payments or charges that haven’t been taken yet.
  • If you have a credit balance, you can tell us on the closure form what account you want this paid into.
  • If there's more than 1 signatory on the account, all signatories will need to sign the closure form.
  • You can switch your business account to another bank using the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Look at our Switching your current account page to find out more.
  • If you close a 1|2|3 Business Current Account before your annual cashback is paid, you won’t get the cashback.
